The Fund

The Support Fund (Steunfonds in Dutch) is an association managed by parents who want to support the Steiner School of Leuven - De Zonnewijzer - and give children the best opportunities in their preferred school.

In Flanders, every school receives funding from the Flemish government. But these subsidies do not cover all costs. That is why municipal schools receive extra income from the municipal treasury, Catholic schools are supported by the church and schools of the GO! network receive extra funding from the Flemish community.

However, the Steiner (Waldorf) schools do not have an extra source of income, even though they do have extra costs. That is why the Support Fund asks parents to support the school financially according to their abilities.

Impact

With the fund we try to support the school for 230,000 euros annually. This is about a quarter of the total amount needed to achieve the Steiner pedagogical project. About half of the income comes from the government and a quarter comes from the parents through regular school invoices. The expansion of the secondary school is financed through Steiner for Life and is separate from the Support Fund.

The Support Fund is used for:

A . Staff Great teachers who use their skills in a creative way! With the support fund we can have 2 teachers for the youngest children. For the older children we can split the groups for handicraft, art and lab classes. In addition, we foresee extra coaching.

B. Training The government provides 1,500 euros in training budget, but De Zonnewijzer wants to offer more. Growing as a teacher - Deepening and broadening and also Growing as a team - Dreaming for tomorrow.

C. Building The government subsidizes 65% of our beautiful buildings. The rest is provided by the Support Fund.

D. Material Our school uses sustainable materials such as fun toys in primary school. For secondary school the fund supports the festivals.

Your Contribution

The support fund contributions are voluntary but essential contributions to turn Rudolf Steiner's educational pedagogy into daily practice. If the school receives a contribution of 420 euros / year (35 euros per month) for every pupil in nursery, primary, and secondary education, we can make it happen.

In the picture to the right, you will see a number of examples but you can also determine the amount yourself. For some it is feasible to pay the target amount of 420 euros per school year, others may prefer to contribute less. You can donate an amount for your own children and, based on the principle of solidarity, also contribute for other children. If you can afford it, we would ask you to support 480 euros / year (40 euros per month). Don't worry, your contribution will be treated confidentially and your data will not be shared with the school. Privacy is guaranteed.

If you want to support the school through your company, you can become a sponsor. This gives you a tax benefit, so you may consider donating just a little bit more.

These deposits are transferred in full to the school. It is best to make a monthly deposit via a standing order, but you can also deposit one time (please mention this in the message with the transfer).

More information

At the beginning of the school year, we give a letter to the children asking for support. It contains all the guidelines once again on paper. We also come to school to give a presentation at the parent evenings.
